Build solid wood decks over sloping or uneven exterior surfaces including rooftops, courtyards, terraces, pool decks etc. with a minimum of effort with Archatrak structural wood deck tiles. Unlike our SwiftDeck range of interlocking wood tiles, these tiles are not interlocking but are constructed with solid wood bearers designed for laying over fixed height or adjustable height pedestals, supported only under each corner of the tile.

These exceptionally strong 24″ x 24″ (nom.) tiles are constructed with 13/16″ Ipe wood slats attached to three wood support battens by stainless steel screws.

Although Ipe wood is generally regarded as having Class A fire rating, in some urban regions, the use of wood (including Ipe wood) for elevated decks on rooftops is either no longer permitted or is greatly restricted. However for those who prefer a deck with a wood look, we also supply porcelain pavers in styles that simulate wood either 8′ x 1′ plank style or 2′ x 2′ slabs. The beauty of these porcelain pavers is that they are completely fireproof, stain resistant, scratch resistant and fade resistant.

For residential projects where you want to quickly cover an existing area of concrete, we normally suggest using our  12″ x 12″ and 24″ x 12″ SwiftDeck interlocking wood tiles with their convenient clip together connection. These tiles are simply laid over the existing substrate and thus follow any prevailing slope provided for drainage.

Why We Use Ipe Wood

We exclusively use Ipe wood in construction of our structural tiles. Ipe is widely recognized as one of the most durable, dense and hard wood species in the world and is also very stable in terms of resistance to twisting and warping in most climatic conditions. The benefits of Ipe wood include:

• high resistance to termites, decay and mold
• very hard and dense
• wear resistant and scuff resistant
• Class A fire rating
• high bending and shearing strength
• high resistance to warping and twisting
• weathers without splintering
• lower maintenance than softer and less dense species

Tile Sizes

Although larger Ipe structural tiles can be supplied on special order, we prefer to supply 24″ x 24″ size only.  Longer boards not securely screwed or nailed to solid wood bearers could possibly give rise to issues of warping in the longer term particularly in regions where humidity levels vary significantly throughout the year.
